Now an annual event- we threw our labor day party this past saturday with a white party theme… but not just a regular ol’ fancy schmancy summer whites; we had a 90′s theme ! It was complete with 90′s hip hop and rap music, a pig roast and white chocolate covered pretzels. We pulled out our living room furniture and threw some fresh flowers from the garden into carafes for decor. Instead of a photo booth we purchased a white instant camera from amazon; the fujifilm instax mini. It is so well designed and very user friendly (even in the hands of those with a few cocktails under their belt!)
Speaking of cocktails; we named our signature drink the ‘dirty harry’ after our often ill-behaved rescue terrier, Harry : ) It was made of jalapeno infused tequila, pineapple juice, triple-sec and lime; a major hit amongst the crowd !
no party is complete without a bubble machine...
garland supplies from the five and dime in Sag Harbor
painted an old yard sale chair white — good bones and a classic french louis style…
Happy Labor Day everyone and here’s to a crisp and cool fall : ) xoxo, brontosaurus annie
va-va-voom is what comes to mind when i think of this hotel – my hubby and i had the pleasure of staying at this chic and sexy masterpiece of interior design this weekend. The hotel was done by designer kelly wearstler, who as of recently has become the biggest name in the ID world. playful wallpapers, chevron fabrics, green striped carpet and hardwood floors painted a light blue-grey like the oceanside just a block away; no corner was left untouched.
i tried to fit these lucite and pleather stools into my suitcase…no go.
oversized light sconces with a mustard yellow trim at the top-c’est magnifique!
the stitching of this white logo turns an upholstered chair into a CHAIR !
one can never go wrong with white orchids…
this could have easily looked like a bad thrift store find in any other space…yet set against the sexy interiors, this little pekinese lamp adds a touch of fab. when can we go back? la la land it is for me.
happy Vday ! some heart shaped architecture and design to feast your eyes…Hope all have found love somewhere – a lover, best-friend, furry friend…
wouldn’t this make a fabulous roller coaster support?
salt and pepper shakers for your savory side?
this took the hands of one sweet carpenter
edward scissorhands has got nothin on this guy
i can imgagine the little pieces of folded paper that inspired this
a great idea for bridal shower/birthday party decor…
i hope cupid has struck you with some arrows today – (or at least some design ideas…) <3
i had this vintage side table i found (yes, believe me) leaned up against a dumpster in my old building of 250 Moore St, Bushwick, NY, Earth. It was originally plain brown wood, no paint. he lived in my loft there for a while, a painted with white and blue paint and changed out the knobs to Anthropologie ones…
but something just wasn’t right in our new digs. so i had a spell of genius pass over me and…
this paint is valspar ‘poppy’ in high gloss.
i used a thatch print stencil i found on ebay for the accent.
a bronze metallic spray paint creates the shiny sparkly design.
and this is the final look ! Voila, mes amis ! even my husband who isn’t keen to notice such things said ‘Oh wow, that looks so much better ! ‘ … a little paint and creativity gave this old table a fab new feel…and she now complements my magenta/lime/mustard yellow dining decor… success !!! winning ! (sorry, had to….)
while working on our house, i had this vision… to make an Orange, Black/White bathroom… the following is the result. I made these curtains from $19.99 cafe curtains (Target.com)
i went to the famous sag harbor ‘five and dime’ store that has quite an impressive crafting section to buy 1) striped ribbon 2) rope 3) invisible double-sided iron-on tape for the hem (what a mouthful!)
i cut the curtains to line up with the edge of the window ledge, then made a ‘hem’ with the iron-on tape, and used a nifty (cheating!) glue gun for the ribbon and rope feature. (if i’d really been fancy i would have hand sewn this part, don’t tell my mother the truth)
this is the rest of the bathroom- looks pretty sweet, huh? the bahama wall paper and BRIGHT orange paint really compliment each other
and a little funny – she did a pretty swell job, that scarlett…
this weekend we visited miami beach, fl for the holiday. this is my grandmother-in-law, josephine vineberg’s beautiful collins avenue condo. below is the view off her veranda; great for hurricane tracking or people watching on the many boats and yachts below…
she has lived here for decades and although not a professional decorator has quite a knack for the pristinely divine.
josephine has lived a grandiose life; travelling the world collecting furniture and accessories from far away lands.
she knows just how to pair the classic color combo; blue and white…
she is an avid reader and has an extensive library full of mystery novels (her favorite). some are first editions and rare finds
jo commisioned this bar and breakfast nook, made of two giant slabs of heavy blue marble. i can’t imagine who got to carry that up the elevator.
a powder room fit for a queen – this wall on left is completely mirrored, on the opposite wall sits framed sheet music of favorite musicals, and a white, soft fur serves as a bath mat.
and here is jo herself. i’ve never seen her without a bright matching outfit, full face of makeup and hair coiffed in movie-star level perfection.
Being a gal of the South, I can’t help but tell all ya’ll about my new found obsession…(can you hear my accent coming back already?) a trend has begun in the crafting world to turn old mason jars into-what! lamps?! Yes, friends, it is possible. Take a mason jar with lid- drill hole in top of said lid, insert a regular light bulb base and put inside whatever flora or fauna your little heart desires. These can be made as desk lamps or hung upside down in clusters from a ceiling as a chandelier style– go crazy !
included i photographed ideas of what to put inside your jar, seashells from your latest trip to St. Barts, faux birds from the flower district, colored pencils from your child’s playroom; in essence there are no rules.
Fill with heart-shaped sugar cookies for your sweetie on the 14th, place a wrapped gift inside for granma’s birthday… i could go on and on ! Happy crafting-love, akn
Who needs a garage? We decided to nix the garage part of the house and add on an entertainment suite or ‘great room’ as they like to call it out east. We installed a gas (remote control!) fireplace, four skylights and lots of windows so we can see who’s in the pool or stealing our garbage cans. The bookshelves were built in and I chose Benjamin Moore ‘Blue Jeans’ paint for the insides- nifty, huh !? A tile floor with wood grain was laid down to look like wood but easier on a body to clean. The bar was my personal touch; our contracter said..’yes but what do YOU want in the room, annie?’…
